New CTO appointment at re.alto as company prepares to scale

re.alto, the European market leader in energy data and digital services, is delighted to announce the appointment of Pepijn Schoen as new Chief Technical Officer [CTO]. With a wealth of experience working with technology-led early stage companies, Pepijn joins re.alto to accelerate technical innovation in the next stage of company growth.

Pepijn Schoen re.alto CTO

re.alto was founded by Elia Group to create the first European marketplace for the exchange of energy data, digital products and services via APIs. The marketplace attracted significant interest from across the energy industry following its launch in 2020, with hundreds of registered users and a broad range of available APIs. Earlier this year, re.alto launched Connect, an industry-first suite of fully managed data-as-a-service solutions which includes metering, solar and electric vehicle data. As CTO, Pepijn will be responsible for overseeing the continued technical development of Connect and the marketplace and will focus on further scaling both products in line with the company’s ambitious growth strategy.

Commenting on his appointment, Pepijn said: “I’ve been keen to work in the energy industry for nearly a decade after my time spent as a software engineer in nuclear fusion, and I’m delighted to be joining the field at a time of such widespread transformation. re.alto is a key player in the drive for a sustainable energy transition and I was impressed by both its strategic ambition and positive company culture. I’m looking forward to playing my part in taking re.alto on the next phase in its growth journey.”

re.alto CEO Alexandre Torreele said: “Pepijn brings a depth of experience and impressive calibre in technological innovation that will support re.alto in delivering our vision of a truly connected energy ecosystem. We’re delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Pepijn has previously held a number of CTO positions, most recently at Voya, where he was responsible for the development of an end-to-end digital business travel solution, and at travel tech company Triprebel. As Entrepreneur in Residence at StartupBootcamp in both London and Amsterdam he mentored CTOs and developers throughout their accelerator programmes. Pepijn started his career in software engineering and holds a MSc in Software Technology from Linnaeus University in Sweden.
